Deputy President William Ruto has said Kenyans should not be coerced into supporting particular candidate ahead of the 2022 general election.
He said some individuals who were forcing some leaders to rally behind Opposition leader Raila Odinga were only interested in safeguarding their interests at the expense of millions of Kenyans.
Speaking in Kiatuni, Muumandu, Kaloleni and MachakosTown , during his empowerment tour of Machakos Town Constituency on Wednesday ,Ruto said some leaders agenda was only to secure power for their own interests and survival.
“Most of the leaders you see coming together have no interest of ordinary Kenyans. Their only interest is political posts to protect their interests,” he said.
At Kiatuni, he assessed the ongoing construction of the Sh100 million-Machakos Technical & Vocational College, one of the four technical institutions we have built in Machakos County.
“Technical training will provide the basis for our progressive Bottom-up Economic Model because it will offer millions of our young people with requisite skills that will boost their employability and drive our country’s development agenda” he said.
He said Mama Patricia Ndila Matheka’s Kwa Kalui Shop and Hotel business in Kiatuni area of Machakos County is a classic example of the principle of the Bottom-Up Economic Model.
” With friendly financial and legal framework, the widow and a mother of four can grow her business, and support her family and livelihoods around. This is what we mean by growing the economy from the bottom of the economic pyramid” he said.
While at Mutituni Market, Ruto said the United Democratic Alliance administration will make the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) contribution progressive so that those who earn more pay a sum higher than those at the lower echelons. This comprehensive healthcare plan will be implemented within our first 100 days in office, and will ensure that all Kenyans access affordable and quality care.
“At Mutituni shared our vision to uplift millions of Kenyans struggling everyday to put food on the table” he added
Ruto said, it was time the poor were given the political and economic attention that they deserve.
“Some people have not understood that ordinary Kenyans, too, can plan their own political destiny and succeed,” he added.
He said through the revolutionary Bottom-Up Economic Development Plan, ordinary Kenyans will be given the optimum consideration that will change their fortunes.
He was accompanied by Machakos Town MP Dr Victor Munyaka, former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, Mwala legislator Eng Vincent Musyoka and Nimrod Mbai of Kitui East.
Muthama and Dr.Munyaka urged Kamba community to rally behind DP William Ruto.
“We know there had been attempts by some political elements to inject strife between Uhuru and the DP. There are also some individuals who want to dictate to Kenyans who will be President and who will not be. Gone are the days when two or three people would decide the political destiny of the nation,” said Munyaka
